The field of Inclusive and Cohesive Society focuses on research of the relations, communication and cooperation among various identity groups in society. The main objective of this field is to offer solutions for societal problems that are based on discovering the roots of prejudice and stereotypes about members of different social groups.
When communication and cooperation between groups is obstructed or hampered, the potential for conflict increases, and the consequences of that process may be negative for general growth and the development of the society. The way in which different groups live ‘together’ in society is one of the main topics of research. Although most of the time the groups live in harmony, a lack of trust and hostility do exist and most often appear as the result of political mobilization.
The results from research of this field can be used for developing programmes for strengthening inter-group cohesion or for changing the perceptions of members of other groups.
